PROS:

You can get paid up to twice a month or you can set a minimum payment threshold. vVWorker offers several payment methods, such as: snail mail check, Western Union money transfer, Payoneer debit MasterCard, and PayPal.

vWorker doesn’t charge bidding fees like many other job bidding sites.  They make money from commission payments based on your earned money.

Working with a bidding site offers the worker protection, particularly if you use escrow services. This means that the bidding site holds the funds until the job is complete and offers arbitration services --- should a dispute arise.  Another pro with using this type of freelance bidding site is that you can build a portfolio of feedback from employers as well as check an employer’s reputation before choosing to work with them.

Helpful tips come straight away (after registration) from vWorker to give you advice on how to succeed with their site.

The site has thousands of jobs at any given time across multiple categories in coding, freelance writing, translation, design, admin, and more.

CONS:

There are hundreds of thousands of workers on vWorker. It could be highly competitive if you don’t have a specialized area and it could be difficult to break into versus existing vWorkers who have established portfolios or overseas vWorkers who charge less than minimum wage. You may need to bid aggressively in order to build your portfolio. It would also be helpful to really wow prospective employers by writing a top-notch resume for your profile.

Detailed vWorker Review

If you want to work as a freelancer in coding, writing, admin, translation, graphics, or other areas, you might be interested in working with Vworker.com. Vworker, formerly known as RentACoder, is an online marketplace connecting workers and people needing workers. It is, in essence, a freelance job bidding site. You could use the as your main work from home egg or to supplement your freelance or other income. Once you sign up, you register as a worker or an employer. If you’re signing up as a worker, you choose a screen name.

Categories include: Admin, business services, design arts and multimedia technology writing& translation, and an ‘other’ category.

I’m accustomed to the Elance portal so this one took a bit of time getting used to navigating but it was fairly easy to find my way around.

When I looked at vWorker for the first time, there were 1,938 open projects across many categories.

Finding Gigs to Bid On:

You can search through everything or filter to a specific category and / or specific dollar values.

You can see a summary of jobs and then if you’re interested, dig deeper. Through digging deeper, you can see various things, like: deadline, payment model, and you can dig deeper into the employer’s profile to check out their project history and worker feedback.

Some job sites will let you see some competing bids against yours but vWorker doesn’t allow this. They use a closed bidding system so that it doesn’t turn into a low-balling contest.  They also use a double blind rating system to try to promote honest (versus retaliatory) rating.

Once you've created your profile, there is a customized welcome screen, allowing you to easily navigate within your account:

Should you work with bidding sites?

There are pros and cons to working with freelance job bidding sites. I have had success in the past with sites like Elance and ODesk and have heard positive RentACoder (now vWorker) reviews. I really like the fact that there are no vWorker fees for bidding. It's a great way to make money from home without it costing you money. You could make money via one-off gigs as you need them and you could also do repeat business with employers who like your work.

Tip: Don't just bid on one job and see what happens. In my experience, it may take several tries before you win a bid. Take the time to fill out your resume / profile and take your time responding to postings so that you can showcase your expertise and give someone the confidence to try you out for their job.

Tip: Do take advantage of the escrow services to be sure you don't get scammed by someone looking to get someone to do work for free.

My Review Summary:

Job bidding sites are a popular way to make money from home and a safer way to do business with new clients due to the escrow system. With the free registration and free bidding offered at vWorker, I think it's definitely worth trying.
