Detailed StatCounter Review
Tracking visitors is always a MUST when it comes to having a website. Some free tools (such as Google Analytics) provides some extremely detailed statistics about the visitors to your website. But these stats are usually not in real time (about a 3-4 hour delay) and frankly, there is sometimes TOO MUCH information to digest.
This is why I ALSO install StatCounter tracking onto ALL of my sites.
This is a free service that works the following way:
- Create a free account
- Create a new campaign (usually this is a unique website)
- Get the "tracking code" - this is some raw javascript code that is inserted at the bottom of all your webpages.
- Place code on website.
That's it...You are being tracked!
And this is really cool because it DOES provide real-time statistics of your website. But there is a limitation to the "Free" version: You will only be able to analyze the last 500 visitors in depth (that that includes information about how long they were on your site, where they came from, why keywords they use, where they are physically located, how they browsed your website, etc.). Understand that this a "rolling" 500 visitors (meaning that it does not stop after 500 visits, rather, it just saves information from that last 500 visitors).
StatCounter DOES provide the "basic" details of your unique visits and page view beyond 500. Therefore, you DO have a good record of the visitor count of your website indefinitely.
I use StatCounter as my Real-Time visitor tracker while I use Google Analytics (which is a part of my Google Adwords account) for my deep and long-term analytics.
