The strategy of using press releases with online marketing is not a new one, but perhaps a forgotten one! For the newbie, Press Releases can seem rather intimidating. But do not get fooled by the simplicity and power that comes with creating and releasing your own press release.

I find it ironic that people will pay hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of days per month on pay-per-click adverting or hire a full-time link builder while completely ignoring a very cost effective way of attracting a lot of traffic while building links faster than you can possibly imagine.

Well first, you need to write a press release about something "news-worthy". I use quotes here because I use the term loosely. I am sometimes amazed at how "news-worthy" can be defined. Still, having something important to say will only result in more readership, traffic, and syndication.

Writing your own press release is very possible and there are a number of templates and resources available to do this. In fact, I write most of my own press releases. Still, if the funds are available, hiring a professional press release writer and editor can make a HUGE difference in the success of your press release. This can be done at a variety of freelance websites.

Once the press release is created, it is only a matter of syndication. There are a number of online press release companies that do this kind of service, and rather cheaply, too. Still, beware of the "free press release". These companies may be looking for your opt-in, a reciprocal link and usually the results are rather poor. For less than $100, you can find a number of highly reputable companies that will post your press release to the news wires.

Of course, the more you pay, the more syndicated and prominent the press release becomes. As a beginner, a simple press release launch can produce remarkable results. As you grow, you can consider upgraded launches and test them yourself.

But at the end of the day, no matter how much immediate traffic your receive from the launch, the backlinks are truly what counts. You may find your release on high page ranked website with a backlink pointed right back to your own site. (And remember, a link broker may charge you twice as much for a less prominent position!).

All in all, press releases are still a very effective way of building backlinks while generating large initial gains in traffic.
