Article Marketing Tips – Write an Effective Resource Box

If you are using article marketing to help you with search engine your optimization, with marketing to potential customers, and in building your online reputation you need to effectively use the resource box available on the article directory. Using it properly will help you maximize the benefits of article marketing.

What’s the Resource Box?

The resource box is your byline. Most article directories don’t allow linking or overly promotional language in the body of the articles you write but the resource box is your place to get search engine optimization value and to convince people to click on the links in the article. The clicks will take them to your website where you could compel them to buy a product, subscribe to your newsletter, etcetera.

The resource box is typically just a few lines of text with up to a few links and it resides at the bottom of your article. It’s a great opportunity to tell people reading the article about the author but it’s also a great opportunity to tell them to go to another website. You may want to tell them they’ll get more info or tell them  about some sort of special deal or promotion you’re offering.   A small amount of space for text can be used effectively. You can take various approaches but the following tips will help you:

-Use well thought out anchor text. Don’t waste your time with a “click here” or a simple url address. This may make people click but it doesn’t give you SEO power by helping you to rank for specific words or phrases. Instead choose a strong keyword phrase and link that. This can help you get listed as a resource for that keyword phrase and if it’s a phrase people use to search for information or places to buy your product, you’re going to get great benefits from it.  Make sure you preview your article before submitting to ensure that it looks the way you want it to…with the right words linked, etc.

-Leave something to the imagination in your article. A valuable article is important but leaving just a little bit to the imagination will help the reader want to learn more and the resource box can help convince them to click through. Make sure you link to a page on your site that compliments the article…hopefully resulting in a sale.

-Follow the editorial guidelines of the site you are posting your article on. Take advantage of as many links as the site will allow (some allow one, some allow three) so your article gets approved. A good article that follows the rules of the site could even be featured on the front page where you could get great traffic as a result.
